Boston Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford and Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jay Bruce have been named the American League and National League Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending May 29th.
In seven games last week, Crawford batted .423 (11-for-26) with two doubles, two triples, three home runs and eight RBI to help lead Boston to a 5-2 record against A.L. Central powers Cleveland and Detroit.
The Reds slugger led the Majors with 13 RBI and 25 total bases, and was tied for first with four home runs last week while hitting .353 (12-for-34) in seven games. His 12 hits ranked second among National Leaguers while his .735 slugging percentage was fifth and his six runs scored were sixth-best.

Justin Verlander Throws Near Perfect No-Hitter
Justin Verlander threw his second career no-hitter and the second in the big leagues this week, leading the Tigers to a 9-0 victory over the Blue Jays on Saturday, according to an ESPN.com report.
"I was a lot more calm today," Verlander said. "Obviously, there's some adrenaline -- you can't help it -- but having been through this situation before, I was definitely able to calm myself down a little bit easier than last time."
Giants Honor Willie Mays On 80th Birthday
The Giants honored Willie Mays on his 80th birthday Friday night with a ceremony befitting a legend, complete with a celebratory letter from President Barack Obama and a video tribute that included everyone from commissioner Bud Selig to singer Tony Bennett.
Mays was driven on a golf cart from center field to the mound and received a roaring standing ovation from a sellout crowd of more than 42,000 at AT&T Park. At one point during the montage, Mays was wiping his face and pulling down his old Giants cap, according to an ESPN.com report.
